Rugs to Die For wasn’t the first title of this particular post but as I went along in my research it became more and more evident how interwoven (pun intended) rugs and politics often were. Hey, a carpet was there when Caesar met Cleopatra! And during the Middle Ages nobles were wrapped in carpets and trampled by horses to avoid their executioner spilling noble blood. the more they stay the same:  Are you living in North Korea in this year of 2015? If you are, here is a rug the very possession of which would probably get you shot to pieces by an anti-aircraft gun like Dear Leader Kim Jung Un’s recently deceased uncle!
The original domain name for this blog was www.rugs.su. Su was the domain extension for the now long-departed Soviet Union, but I was so pleased to have a four-letter domain extension I decided to overlook that; besides, as a history buff I think it’s cool!  Since the Soviet Union started with Lenin I thought it was a good idea to have a picture of him on a carpet at some point near the beginning of this blog.
