Rugs to Die For wasn’t the first title of this particular post but as I went along in my research it became more and more evident how interwoven (pun intended) rugs and politics often were. Hey, a carpet was there when Caesar met Cleopatra! And during the Middle Ages nobles were wrapped in carpets and trampled by horses to avoid their executioner spilling noble blood. Both happened a long time ago, but it seems the more things change

the more they stay the same:  Are you living in North Korea in this year of 2015? If you are, here is a rug the very possession of which would probably get you shot to pieces by an anti-aircraft gun like Dear Leader Kim Jung Un’s recently deceased uncle!
Large“Lenin” rugThe original domain name for this blog was www.rugs.su. Su was the domain extension for the now long-departed Soviet Union, but I was so pleased to have a four-letter domain extension I decided to overlook that; besides, as a history buff I think it’s cool!  Since the Soviet Union started with Lenin I thought it was a good idea to have a picture of him on a carpet at some point near the beginning of this blog.
